Hi everyone, Michelle here today and It’s been a while since I have created a round layout but let me share a little about how I put this one together.
My base is a cake liner – yes, it truly is and I have lifted some of the top cover with my finger nail so that you can see a little more of the rawness of the corrugated look. I have used a lace doily edge punch and cut four 1”x12” strips of floral patterned paper and then finger pleated and adhered to the underside of the cake liner.
I always add a layer underneath the bottom of my circular layouts using either a piece of white cardstock or photocopy paper – I draw around the edge of the cake liner and cut a circle so that I can use it underneath to tidy and cover the edge pieces – does that make sense? Now I start choosing my background patterned papers – I cut frames, rectangles/squares from both patterned paper and cardstock, and have ephemera pieces sitting out in front of me.
I then start shuffling pieces of patterned paper, tucking in muslin and a few other bits and pieces to build my layers. I quite often walk away and come back and shuffle a bit more [well at least I am honest]. I’ve distressed a few layers by running the blade of my scissors along the paper edge and kept other layers smooth. I’ve lightly sanded my photograph along the edges using a sanding block. [Personally I think that every crafter should have one of these – a brilliant tool for paper crafters]. Don’t be too harsh, just be gentle.
I’ve tied some twine, added a few pearls to a small twine string and adhered under my bloom. Popped on a few pieces of bling, a few blooms and a sentiment to title my layout ‘gather your dreams.
