Crafting fun with Jowilna

Our wonderful friend from South Africa Jowilna Nolte has created with our Alcohol Inks – Jowilna explains —

“When was the last time when you just had fun? Real fun? For me, playing with inks and making a mess is fun. And whether that mess turns out great or not, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is the process, keeping your head busy, the beauty you see or don’t see – it all has a purpose and for that I am really thankful. Do have fun, even in the mess.

One of my favourite things is using household products while crafting – it’s affordable, accessible and loads of fun.

For this mug, I used my trusty cling wrap from the kitchen, a cheap white mug and some Couture Creations alcohol ink. Here’s how to achieve this fun effect

Step 1

Select a few Couture Creations colours of alcohol inks to use and grab some cling wrap.

Step 2

Apply some drops of Fluro alcohol ink onto the cling wrap.

Step 3

Then add some more drops of colour using your second colour.

Step 4

I stuck to some shades of blue in metallic, normal and glitter alcohol inks.

Step 5

Scrunch up the cling wrap and place your mug on top.

Step 6

Wrap the mug tightly and scrunch up the cling wrap even more. Pressing it up to create some fine scrunched up folds. Now leave the cling wrap in place so that the ink can evaporate and dry under the plastic.

Step 7

You can peek every now and again, but rather just leave it until fully dry.

Then paint a layer of gel medium over the ink or use a clear spray sealant to seal it.

I lightly handwash my mugs when I use them without harsh scrubbing and soaking– but these are mostly decorative and just for fun, storage, and display.
