I haven’t made a shaker card for a while, so thought it was time. I wanted to make something using the vellum sheets from the the brand new Earthy Delights Collection, and decided it would be perfect for a shaker card. I began by cutting a topper the same size as the front of the base card. I added a piece of design paper from the Earthly Delights Collection. Then, taking a circle die, I cut a circle into the topper piece on the top half of my cardstock.
Next I added double-sided tape to the inside of the top, then added the piece of vellum I’d chosen, ensuring as much of the design was showing as possible. It should be completely adhered and sealed. This next step is crucial – using double-sided foam tape, go all around the circle (again, on the inside). This is where you’ll add your sequins, beads, glitter etc – whatever you choose to use, but preferably something that matches the colours of the design papers used.
I leave the red seal on the tape until all the glitter etc is placed, then remove it slowly and carefully otherwise static will pull some of your makings up onto the foam tape. Once you are happy with the volume of the makings, seal it with acetate to keep the sequins and glitter contained. (If you don’t have clear acetate, you can use a piece of clear packaging – it will not be seen.
Now go around the perimeter of the card with double-sided foam tape to make sure the card is even all round. You will then add that to your card base. To finish off the card, I made a frame for the circle using two dies – one the same size as the cut out, and another a little bigger. You can leave it without a frame, but I feel adding a frame finishes it off.
Lastly I added a ‘Thank you’ sentiment from an Homely Florals collection, then added two leaves from the Pampas Grass stamps and dies of the Earthy Delights collection.
Shaker cards do take a little longer to make, especially if you are new to them, but I believe it’s worth the effort for that more upmarket effect you get.
